The HyperKewl Evaporative Dog Cooling Coat is a safe and cost effective way to keep your dog cool be it indoors, outdoors, during exercise or just daily play. The cooling coat is lightweight and durable, economical and effective at keeping your dog cool in hot, dry weather.
Featured Product in Whole Dog Journal -JULY 2011

The principle at work here is the powerful cooling properties of evaporation. Dogs don't have sweat glands and it's critical to not trap heat but to let the evaporation work its magic. The whole idea is to stay comfortable, and let the evaporation cooling process do the work.

The Cooling Vest continually pulls the heat out of the dog's bloodstream as it rushes past the veins in their neck. The coolness circulates throughout the dog's whole body and can keep their body temperature at a comfortable level all day long. They literally get cooled from the inside out!

The material is 100% cotton, so it can be worn comfortably all day. It's the highest quality polymer, which is made in America not Indonesia. It lasts longer and works better. It absorbs 400 times its weight in water and is non-toxic so it will not irritate the skin or be harmful if chewed

Sizing Advice - The most important factor in choosing the right size cooling vest is the girth of your dog. This will allow the most effective cooling around the most affected part of your dog and allows the vest as a whole to fit properly. The back measurement is also important, but secondary to the girth measurement.

Here is the girth measurement for these vests:
  • XS 12 to 20"
  • S 18-26"
  • M 22-32"
  • L 26-36"
  • XL 28-38"
  • XXL 30-42"

Dog Cooling Vests Buying Guide

Important Note If you live in a humid climate, we recommend the Dog Cooling Jacket. It provides better cooling because it uses ice packs, which keep the dog cooler longer. This vest doesn't function as well in humid climates.

Note to Bulldog Owners and other dogs that are difficult to fit - Bulldogs are VERY DIFFICULT to fit. Once you account for their necks, and their girth, often the vests that are big enough around are too long for them. Also, many Bulldogs can't stand water, so they are a bad candidate for the evaporating cooling vest. If you are getting a vest for a Bulldog, we recommend the Guardian Dog Gear Vest,, which just seems to fit them better. The easiest solution, however, is to forget about a vest altogether and get them a medium or large cooling pad. There's no water involved, and dogs love them. Plus, you don't have to mess with the bulldog's unusual size. This is also a good solution for other dogs that are unusually sized.

Product De-Tails:
  • Evaporative Dog Cooling Coat is made from comfortable quilted nylon on the outside, Hyperkewl fabric inner layer, and a water repellent nylon liner.
    It's trimmed with black polycotton
  • Simply soak the vest for one to two minutes in water to activate the cooling technology. Gently squeeze out excessive water
  • The technology in this vest is embedded in the fabric so it disperses the cooling evenly.
  • This vest will stay cool for five hours and then dry out. This reduces mildew issues
  • The vests come with an adjustable belt- they stopped using velcro as the fastener. This is a great improvement
  • Provides hours of cooling relief per soaking; extremely lightweight and durable
  • Flexible shoulder material allows the dog to move without restriction
  • Comfortable, quilted nylon outer w/HyperKewl fabric inner, water repellent nylon liner, and black poly-cotton trim

Product Reviews for Dog Cooling Vest-SALE!

Why Do I Need a Dog Cooling Vest? As we near the end of August, the days are still hot and humid they dont call them the Dog Days of Summer for nothing! Theres still plenty to do outdoors and your dog enjoys being outside, too. However, just as the heat affects you, it affects him as well. Dogs are susceptible to heatstroke just as their human owners are, so understanding the warning signs and being proactive in keeping your dog cool is key to keeping him comfortable and possibly saving his life in hot weather.

Heat Stroke in Dogs

When we get hot, we sweat. Sweating is how the human body protects itself from overheating. Dogs however, do not sweat. They only have sweat glands in the pads of their paws, which helps with some heat dissipation, but for the most part, they pant. Panting eliminates excess heat from a dogs body. When panting isnt enough, the dogs body temperature rises and can be fatal if not corrected immediately.

What to Look For

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke in dogs presents itself in the following ways:

  • Increased heart rate
  • Excessive panting
  • Increased salivation
  • Bright red tongue
  • Red or pale gums
  • Thick, sticky saliva
  • Depression
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea

What to do

If you notice signs of heat stroke in your dog, immediate action is vital. You have to get your dogs body temperature down quickly to avoid brain damage, kidney failure, blood clots or even death.

  1. Get the dog out of the heat immediately.
  2. Wet him down thoroughly with cool (not cold) water.
  3. Increase air movement in the area with a fan.
  4. Check his temperature rectally every five minutes.
  5. Once his temperature has dropped to 103F, stop all cooling methods and dry him completely.
  6. Wrap him in a towel or blanket to keep him from losing too much heat.
  7. Even if he appears to recover quickly, take him to your veterinarian to be checked out. He could be dehydrated or suffer other complications.

Tip: Dont try to bring your dogs temperature down too quickly or expose him to extremely cold water as this could send his body into shock and present a host of other complications.

Heat Stroke Prevention

Here at Keep Doggie Safe, we are all about well, keeping doggie safe. We like that old saying that goes, An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. How this compares to other dog cooling vests
Material is very durable
This fabric does not last for holding in the water much better than other vest (we tested less than an hour for other products)
Good Design- Covers Dog Well
We have heard negative remarks on other designs (from not covering the canine to the small velcro pieces coming undone)
Excellent Material
This vest soaks up water well. Other vests require you to soak and rub the water into it as it does not soak up very quickly
We chose Technique because they are the leaders in Cooling products for the military and have TESTED technology
